Today is the start of World Refugee Week…and we should not be hearing stories like this.
Alex and Filmon are two of three Eritrean teenage boys who have committed suicide in the UK in the last six months.
Like my own foster brother, they fled conflict in their country, crossed the Sahara desert, the Mediterranean Sea and lived in the Calais Jungle just to find a safe place to live.
Once they made it to the UK…where they thought they would finally be sfe, they were instead met with Theresa May’s ‘Hostile Environment’.
The crushing realisation that they were not welcome here, coupled with the fear of being deported back to where they started…was too much for them…and now it’s too late.
To do this to vulnerable refugee children is not OK.
