Recently my youngest foster brother stood up in front of his school to tell his classmates his story.
Even I felt nervous for him, so I can’t imagine how he felt, only 8 months after arriving in England speaking no English.
But he did it. Beautifully and clearly, he told them what he has been through in his 15 years on this earth…and I was so proud.
Hopefully these boys will remember this story for a long time and it will open their hearts to the words ‘refugee’. I know his words made them feel something. They made me feel everything.
I really feel like if we all took a little time to regularly walk in the shoes of another and truly feel what it feels like…this world would be so different.
Well done Bego for creating the space for your schoolmates to do this today. You have no idea what ripple of compassion you have created.
