We should all enter this world with equal opportunity. Or at least an option of somewhere to be safe.
This picture reminds me of Alan Kurdi, the three year old Syrian boy found on a beach in Turkey in 2015. Those images shocked the world and brought emphasis to the plight of Syrian refugees and the extent of the crisis meaning his death was not in vein.
Let this picture do the same. Oscar and Valeria are two of at least six people who have died on this crossing these last few days. Two babies, a toddler and a woman were found dead on Sunday and three children and an adult also died recently after their raft capsized on this same river.
I know it’s hard to see but we cannot turn a blind eye. Those of us lucky enough to not be fighting for survival have the responsibility to stand up for those of us who are.
