I cannot believe I am writing this caption, but the most horrible series of events has just unfolded before me.
I was queuing for a sandwich at the airport in Milan this afternoon, on my way back to London, when a guy sitting at a table just behind me collapsed, clutching his heart.
Amazingly there was a lady close by who knew what to do and she started giving him CPR….pumping his chest up and down until some more medics arrives (which seemed to take FOREVER), and they took it in turns to continue.
The man’s wife was right beside me and obviously had no idea what to do (nor did I)…but, remembering all of your comments on my last post, I put my arms around her and tried to keep her calm.
She didn’t speak English but it didn’t matter in that moment. She seemed to feel my comforting words despite the language barrier.
The scene grew increasingly chaotic, with more and more people gathering round, trying to help. I stayed for nearly an hour as the medics worked to get his heart started again.
