WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PEOPLE LIVING IN THE CALAIS JUNGLE AFTER IT WAS DEMOLISHED?

25 March 2018

This is something we are often asked.

SOME STAYED IN CALAIS

After the Jungle (home to over 10,000), was dismantled in October 2016, the authorities in the Calais area will no longer tolerate even a single tent.

Although it has become nearly impossible to stay in the area, many people still dream of the UK and continue to try and cross the sea from Calais. They are forced to do so in hiding, living in the undergrowth and the forests in the area.

According to France24, there are more than 800 people living this way.

So nearly 1000 people stayed….what about the rest?

SOME HEADED TO PARIS

People were dispersed throughout France. Many people headed to Paris where there are now well over 1000 people living on the street in tents.

Many people I spoke to here in Paris had already endured a year or more in Calais previously.

This is no solution.
