Guys, I want to introduce you to Leigh.
Leigh is an absolute superstar, and has so kindly decided to run this year’s London Marathon on behalf of The Worldwide Tribe. We asked her a few questions to find out what compelled her to do this, and how she’s found the experience so far…
Why did you decide to fundraise for The Worldwide Tribe?
“Last year’s mood was so negative, and the whole shift in the idea that the UK should only be concerned for what happened in the UK really worried and saddened me. I’d come across The Worldwide Tribe on Instagram and it warmed my heart that there was an organisation dedicated to helping, and you could see the tangible things they do, like actually being involved in the search and rescue of refugees. Having run the marathon in 2013 I had always planned to do it again, and in getting a ballot place I was able to pick a charity of my own choice to support. I felt this was my opportunity to do something positive and counter how I felt last year, by spreading some love and light with The Worldwide Tribe.”
What has your experience been like so far?
“Training hasn’t been easy this time. I recently opened a new business, and finding time for long runs has been a challenge, but it’s also forced me to take time for myself and running really helps me clear my mind.”
What’s been your highlight?
“My highlight was when I found a route that took me to the top of these amazing man-made hills in Northolt next to the A40. You can see all the way to the city of London on one side, and sprawling countryside on the other.”
What’s been your lowest point?
“I tripped on a run, really hurt my ankle and wasn’t sure I was going to make it home! I couldn’t run for a couple of weeks, and was worried it would set my training back, but fingers crossed it’s not bothered me since.”
What would you say to anyone thinking of taking part in a fundraising event?
“Definitely do it! I wasn’t sure if The Worldwide Tribe would be interested in me running the marathon for them, but I contacted them anyway and they explained exactly how I could make it work.”
Thank you Leigh! We honestly can’t tell you how grateful we are for your support, and it’s amazing to have you as part of the Tribe!
